Free SQE1 practice questions and cheapest banks

Where can I get free SQE1 practice questions?

All free: the SRA’s 220 official sample questions, FQPS Academy’s two 180-question mocks (360 questions), ActusPrep’s 100 questions, QLTS School’s two mocks (100 to 170 questions), BPP’s 50 MCQs plus a mock, the University of Law app’s 45 questions, and Law Drills’ free tier (30 question credits per FLK paper in selected subjects).

That’s at least 875 free questions in fixed sets, counting QLTS School’s mocks at their smaller stated size. That’s before counting Law Drills, weekly newsletters and the smaller diagnostics. We checked every count on the provider’s own website on 23 October 2026.

The SRA set is the one to trust on style. ActusPrep and FQPS give you the most free questions with explanations, and QLTS gives you the closest free taste of the test-centre screen.

Which free SQE1 questions are closest to the real exam?

The SRA’s own sample questions are the closest, as they come straight from the SQE1 question bank. There are 220 in total, since the SRA released 50 more in November 2025. 90 are original questions released before the first sitting in November 2021. The other 130 are “pre-tested” questions, and every one of them has been used in a real SQE1 assessment (SRA).

The SRA picked the pre-tested 130 to be representative of real SQE1 papers in difficulty and length. It also publishes how candidates did on them:

• Pre-tested questions: 57.0% correct on FLK1 and 49.2% on FLK2, an average of 53.1%.
• Real SQE1 assessments (to July 2025): 57.5% on FLK1 and 54.9% on FLK2, an average of 56.2%.
• Length: 208 words per question on average, against 206 in the real assessments.

They’re free and you don’t need an account. You can do them online or as PDFs, in English and Welsh. The one gap is explanations. You get the correct answer (and, for the pre-tested set, the share of candidates who got it right), but there’s no written reasoning.

The SRA is also upfront that they “do not cover all assessment material contained in the FLK and are not designed to be a full mock exam.” So I’d save the pre-tested 130 for later in your revision, when your score on them tells you more.

What do ActusPrep’s free SQE1 questions include?

ActusPrep gives you 100 free questions in two diagnostic tests, with 50 for FLK1 and 50 for FLK2 (ActusPrep). You don’t even need to log in to start.

Each test is timed at 83 minutes 20 seconds. That works out at about 1.7 minutes a question, and the SRA’s own average for the real exam is about 1.8 minutes. When you submit, you get an instant score, a breakdown by topic and full explanations.

That makes it a really good baseline check across both FLK papers. It’s a fixed set of 100, so it works best as a snapshot of where you are. If you want more, ActusPrep’s full bank (4,800+ questions) is on its paid Core plan (ActusPrep pricing).

What do the other free sources include?

FQPS Academy’s free mocks

With a free FQPS Academy account, you get one complete 180-question FLK1 mock and one complete 180-question FLK2 mock, each run as two sessions of 90. You also get a daily allowance of questions (FQPS Academy).

FQPS says every question has detailed feedback, and the free mocks don’t expire. It’s the largest single free set with explanations that we found. Just bear in mind that the mocks follow the format used up to July 2026, rather than the January 2027 split.

QLTS School’s free mocks

QLTS School offers two free sample mocks, one for FLK1 and one for FLK2. They run on a Pearson VUE-style platform. You get explanations of why each wrong option is wrong, plus AI feedback on how you did. You’ll need to fill in a details form to get access, but you don’t need to give any payment details (QLTS School).

QLTS’s pages describe the size differently. The sample-material page says 50 questions each, while the mock-tests page says “a full 85-question SQE1 mock test session”. BPP’s free SQE resources

BPP’s free pack has 50 MCQs, one of its SQE1 mock exams with pre-set feedback, a sample criminal law workbook and two recorded lectures (BPP). BPP doesn’t say how many questions are in the mock.

The University of Law SQE app

The free ULaw SQE app (iOS and Android) gives you 45 MCQs “written and reviewed by experts at The University of Law” (App Store). You’ll need to create an account in the app to use them. The full bank of over 5,000 questions comes with ULaw’s SQE courses.

Glintiss weekly newsletter

Dr Yannis’s Glintiss newsletter sends out one SQE1-style single best answer question every Monday. The full answer, with an explanation of each wrong option, follows the next week (Glintiss). Past issues stay online, all the way back to Newsletter 1 in September 2023. It’s a small weekly habit rather than a bank, and the explanations are thorough. Glintiss’s newsletter has carried a Law Drills discount code.

Smaller free diagnostics and mocks

• Lawdojo has a free 25-question timed diagnostic with worked answers and an AI tutor (Lawdojo).
• SQE1 Prep has a free 20-question, 20-minute readiness quiz, and you don’t have to give your email to take it (SQE1 Prep).
• THEONEHUNDRED has a free mock test for FLK1 or FLK2 (THEONEHUNDRED).
• AllAboutLaw’s free 90-question FLK1 mock was offline when we checked on 23 October 2026 (the link now redirects to a general SQE guide).

What does Law Drills give you for free?

Law Drills (that’s us!) has a free plan for any sitting, at £0. It gives you 30 question credits per FLK paper in selected subjects, the AI coach and a free sample mini-mock.

The AI coach explains the reasoning behind each answer, and on our paid plans we pick your next questions from your weak areas. It’s mostly practice rather than a full mock, so I’d pair it with the SRA set and one of the free mocks above.

If you’re self-funding and money is the real barrier, please keep an eye on the Law Drills Fellowship Project. When an opportunity is open, it gives free Law Drills plans to candidates who face financial barriers. The plans are donated by alumni and partner organisations.

What is the cheapest SQE1 question bank?

Of the banks we checked on 23 October 2026, SQE1 Prep had the lowest one-off price for a full bank with mocks and lifetime access. It’s £69.99 for 4,400+ questions. If you only need a month or two, ActusPrep Core costs less, at £25 a month. Our own Law Drills SQE1 Pro is £195 for the January 2027 sitting, with access until 31 January 2027, and it has the largest bank of the four.

Prices and counts come from each provider’s own pricing page on 23 October 2026, with Lawdojo rechecked on 29 October 2026 (ActusPrep, SQE1 Prep, Lawdojo, Law Drills, Law Drills mocks). Price per question is just the price divided by the stated bank size. It doesn’t tell you anything about quality, so I’d try each bank’s free tier before you pay.

A few things matter more than the headline price:

• How long you’ll need it for. If your sitting is close, a monthly plan is cheapest. If you need it for six months or more, a one-off price to your exam date usually works out cheaper.
• How good the explanations are. A bank only teaches you if the explanations do, so try a free set and read the explanations for the questions you got wrong.
• Whether there are mocks in the new format. From January 2027 each FLK paper is 170 questions in two sessions of 85 (SRA), so check whether full mocks are included or cost extra.

Are free SQE1 MCQs good enough to pass?

Free questions are good enough to learn the format, find your weak areas and check your progress. For most people, though, they aren’t enough on their own, simply because there aren’t enough of them.

One tip comes up again and again in our research across social media and interviews with many of the candidates featured in our SQE Stories: use a range of sources. That means the SRA set for calibration, a free mock or two for timing, and one bank for volume.

Chizurum Ogedengbe self-studied around a full-time job and used free questions alongside a bank. She wrote: “My target was to do 2500 questions on Law Drills but I was only able to do about 1500 (of course I did all the other free questions I could find) due to time constraints.”

Nadia Szumilo used free materials for her notes and relied on question banks for practice. She wrote: “As for me, I didn’t do my own notes of the material (I relied on the free resources online and a set of notes we inherited from the year above).”

Duane Allen, a self-funded candidate, is a good example of why balance matters. He wrote: “Being self-financed, I was keen on finding the most cost-effective option.” He did several of the SRA’s FLK1 samples, but: “I ended up leaving the FLK2 mock exam until way too late and not doing any of the SRA’s FLK2 sample questions, with the result that my preparation was unbalanced.” He went on to pass his FLK2 resit.

How should I use free questions if I’m on a budget?

If money’s tight, I’d use the free sets in an order that gets the most out of each one, and only pay for one thing when free practice runs out.

1. Learn the format first with ActusPrep’s 100 questions or a free diagnostic, and the SRA’s original 90.
2. Build up volume with FQPS daily questions or one low-cost bank, working subject by subject.
3. Time yourself with the free FQPS, QLTS and BPP mocks once you’ve covered most subjects.
4. Save the SRA’s 130 pre-tested questions for the last few weeks, and compare your score with the real-candidate averages above.
5. Rehearse the real day at least once in the January 2027 format: 85 questions, a break, then 85 more.

Common questions

What score on the SRA sample questions means I'm ready for SQE1?

There's no official readiness score. The SRA publishes how real candidates did on its 130 pre-tested questions: an average of 53.1% correct (57.0% FLK1, 49.2% FLK2). Scoring comfortably above that on a first attempt is a good sign, but 130 questions is a small sample, so check it against your other practice scores.

Do free SQE1 mocks use the January 2027 format?

Mostly not yet. From January 2027 each FLK paper has 170 questions in two sessions of 85, with 2 hours 33 minutes per session. Most free mocks checked on 23 October 2026 were shorter sets or 180-question papers in the old format, so use them for practice and pacing rather than as a full rehearsal.
