Best SQE1 question bank alongside your course
The TL;DR
We built Law Drills to sit alongside a course, so we're biased. Look for volume, explanations of every option, weak-area targeting, calibrated mocks and a clear price. Law Drills has over 61,500 exam-style SQE1 MCQs, one payment and a free start.

What’s the best SQE1 question bank to use alongside my course?
We built Law Drills to sit alongside a course, so we’re biased. The best bank for you is the one that fills your course’s gap: more questions, explanations of every option, practice that targets your weak areas, or timed mocks in the January 2027 format. Here’s what to look for, how Law Drills measures up, and how it fits your course.
You can start Law Drills free, so you can judge it for yourself before you pay.
Last checked: 6 November 2026. Course details and prices below come from each provider’s own website on that date. Prices change, so check before you buy.
Your course teaches you the law. A bank gives you enough questions to make it stick, shows you where you’re losing marks and gets you used to the real exam’s pace.
What should I look for in an add-on question bank?
When you already have a course, six things matter most.
| What to look for | Why it matters alongside a course | How Law Drills measures up |
|---|---|---|
| Volume and variety | Course banks can get familiar. A second bank gives you new questions in a different house style. | Over 61,500 exam-style SQE1 MCQs. |
| Explanation quality | You learn most from the questions you get wrong. | Every option explained, plus an AI coach for follow-ups. |
| Adaptivity to weak areas | Your course follows a set timetable, but your weak areas are your own. | On paid plans, we steer your next questions towards your weak areas. |
| Mock scores vs the real exam | Some mocks run harder than the real exam and some run easier. | Our premium mocks run about 5% easier than the real exam, by our own estimate. They come as 85-question half-mocks (£15) and 170-question full mocks (£25). |
| Price model | A monthly plan keeps charging until you cancel. A one-off payment doesn’t. | One payment, not a subscription. SQE1 Pro is £195 for the January 2027 sitting, with access until 31 January 2027. |
| Free trial | It’s the only way to judge question quality before paying. | 30 question credits per FLK paper in selected subjects, the AI coach and a sample mini-mock. |

Work out which of these your course doesn’t cover, and use Law Drills for that gap. In the free plan, get a question wrong and read why, then answer it correctly to see the explanation for every option.
How do course mocks compare with the real exam?
Your course’s mock scores aren’t a direct forecast of your real score. Some providers’ mocks run harder than the real exam and some run easier. Our page on how do mock scores compare with the real exam? brings together what candidates reported. Here are the averages.
- QLTS School: candidates scored about 13.8% higher on the real exam than on the mocks.
- ULaw: about 1.2% lower on the real exam, so broadly accurate on average.
- BPP: about 7.3% lower on the real exam.
- BARBRI: about 9.4% lower on the real exam.
- Law Drills premium mocks: about 5% lower on the real exam. This is our estimate: we matched our mocks to students’ January 2026 results, then revised the mocks.
The course figures come from our research across social media and interviews with many of the candidates featured in our SQE Stories, so they’re self-reported. The ranges are wide, and every figure assumes the mock was sat under exam conditions. So treat them as a guide to reading your score.
Our own mocks run easy too (about 5%, by our estimate), so read a Law Drills mock score with that in mind. Our figure is measured differently from the course figures, so treat any comparison between them as rough. If your course mocks run hard, don’t panic about a low score. Add volume, plus a mock that runs less hard.
How does Law Drills pair with my course?
Here’s what each course includes, from its own website, and what Law Drills can add.
| Course | What it includes (provider’s own site, 6 Nov 2026) | Its mocks vs the real exam | What Law Drills adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| The University of Law | ULaw SQE revision app and question bank, plus regular mock assessments; from £5,250 | Broadly accurate on average (about 1.2% easier) | A second house style for variety, and extra timed mocks |
| BPP | BPP Adapt adaptive platform and MCQ practice; from £5,900 (self-study from £4,300) | About 7.3% easier | More volume, plus a second timed mock to compare against (ours run about 5% easy, by our estimate) |
| BARBRI | 3,000+ MCQs, 8 mock tests and a full simulated exam; from £2,999 | About 9.4% easier | More volume, plus a second timed mock to compare against (ours run about 5% easy, by our estimate) |
| QLTS School | 2,500+ MCQs and timed mock sessions of 85 questions: 12 sessions from £1,990, 32 sessions from £2,490 | About 13.8% harder | Volume, plus a timed mock that runs less hard (ours run about 5% easy, by our estimate) |
| Books or self-study | Whatever your books include | Depends on the source | Your main source of questions, with every option explained, plus timed mocks |
If you’re on a University of Law course
ULaw’s course includes its SQE revision app and question bank, with regular mock assessments (ULaw). Its own pages give two sizes for the app’s full bank: over 3,000 questions in the user guide and over 5,000 in a blog post updated in October 2026.
ULaw mocks track the real exam closely on average, but they can start to feel familiar. In our research, candidates who scored 90%+ on ULaw can still drop 10 to 15 points on the day. So the main thing to add is a second bank in a different style, and that’s where Law Drills fits.
If you’re on a BPP course
BPP’s SQE1 course uses BPP Adapt, its AI-driven adaptive platform, plus MCQ practice you can do on the go (BPP). Its self-study route is listed from £4,300 (BPP’s SQE courses). BPP doesn’t publish a question count.
BPP mocks tend to run easier than the real exam. Candidates also say its hub practice mocks are noticeably easier than its Inspera-format mocks, so check which one you sat before reading your score. Use Law Drills for volume, and sit at least one of our timed mocks to compare.
If you’re on a BARBRI course
BARBRI’s SQE1 Prep includes 3,000+ practice MCQs, 8 mock tests and a full simulated exam (BARBRI).
BARBRI mocks tend to run the easiest of the courses here, so a high BARBRI score can flatter you. Use Law Drills for more volume in a different style. Then check yourself against the SRA’s pre-tested sample questions and one of our timed mocks.
If you’re on a QLTS School course
QLTS School’s SQE1 course includes 2,500+ MCQs and timed mock sessions of 85 questions. Its £1,990 Basic package has 12 sessions, and from £2,490 you get 32 sessions, 16 for each FLK (QLTS School).
QLTS mocks run hard, so a low score there isn’t unusual. Use Law Drills for daily practice, plus one of our timed mocks to see where you stand. Our QLTS mocks guide has more on reading QLTS scores.
If you’re on another course, or studying from books
On any other course, find its gap and fill that. If you’re studying from books, Law Drills can be your main source of questions, so explanations and full timed mocks matter even more. Our guide to whether you should self-study for SQE1 covers that route.
Do candidates use Law Drills alongside a course?
Yes. Many of our users are on a prep course, and adding a source of practice is a tip that comes up again and again in our research across social media and interviews with many of the candidates featured in our SQE Stories.
Ellie Ward did a full-time prep course. She wrote: “Alongside my main course I also used SRA questions and did around 2,000 Law Drills questions which really helped me not get too comfortable with question style and exposed me to varying difficulty and style of questions.”
Megan Hornsby had her provider’s question banks too. She wrote: “Law Drills was a great resource for when I felt that I finished all the questions with my provider.”
Is Law Drills a full SQE1 course?
No, and we’d rather be clear about that. Law Drills is a question bank with an AI coach. It’s not a course with lectures and workbooks. Many of our users are on a prep course and use us for the extra practice their course doesn’t give them. Others self-study from textbooks and use us as their main source of questions.
You get over 61,500 exam-style SQE1 MCQs, with every option explained and the AI coach for follow-ups. On paid plans, we steer your next questions towards your weak areas. SQE1 Pro is one payment, not a subscription: £195 for the January 2027 sitting, with access until 31 January 2027. If you only need one paper, FLK1 or FLK2 on its own is £115.
Our premium mocks are sold separately on our mocks page, or included in SQE1 Max (£395 for the January 2027 sitting), which also adds weekly live tutorials with Dan Hill. You can see every plan in our plans and prices, and you can start free.
We partner with BARBRI, whose students can get a discount on our SQE1 plans (not mocks).
What should I do in the last 8 weeks before January 2027?
FLK1 runs from 11 to 15 January 2027 and FLK2 from 18 to 22 January 2027, and results are due on 9 March 2027 (SRA). Check your seat first: seat reservation has closed, so if you haven’t booked, direct booking runs from 19 to 23 November 2026, with a limited number of seats (SRA). From early November, that’s about nine weeks until FLK1 starts, so the plan below covers the last 8.
If you’re asking “am I behind?”, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most common worries we see in our research across social media and interviews with many of the candidates featured in our SQE Stories, along with when to start full mocks and what a bad ULaw mock score means. Here’s a plan you can follow alongside a course.
- Weeks 8 to 6: finish any course content you haven’t covered, and do mixed questions every day too. Use your Law Drills results to find your weakest topics.
- Weeks 6 to 4: sit one timed 85-question session a week. The real exam has two sessions of 85, each 2 hours 33 minutes, which is about 1.8 minutes a question (SRA). From January 2027 the SRA also splits subjects by session (SRA), so check whether your mock does the same.
- Weeks 4 to 2: sit at least one full 170-question mock for each FLK, with the break. Read your score with your mock provider’s offset in mind.
- The last 2 weeks: do the SRA’s pre-tested sample questions, review your error notes and keep practising your weakest topics. Rest the day before.
If a ULaw mock score has shaken you, look at it by topic before you look at the total. ULaw mocks are broadly accurate on average, but a single mock score is only one result. Our SQE1 score guide explains what to aim for.
If you’re adding Law Drills now, SQE1 Pro for the January 2027 sitting runs until 31 January 2027, past your FLK2 date. Try the free plan first, so you don’t lose a week if it doesn’t suit you.
Common questions
Which question bank should I add to my BPP, ULaw, BARBRI or QLTS course?
Add one that fixes your course's weak spot. We built Law Drills for this, so we're biased, but here's what we'd look for. If you need volume, pick a large bank that explains every option. If your course mocks run easy (BPP and BARBRI tend to), add a second timed mock as a cross-check. If they run hard (QLTS), add volume and a mock that runs less hard. You can start Law Drills free and judge it for yourself.
My course doesn't give me enough practice questions. What should I add?
Add a bank for volume. Check that it explains every option, lets you drill by topic, and has timed mocks in the January 2027 format (two sessions of 85 questions, with subjects split by session). Law Drills has over 61,500 exam-style SQE1 MCQs. Then use the SRA's free sample questions to check your level.
Are course mock scores higher or lower than real SQE1 scores?
It depends on the provider. In our research across social media and interviews with many of the candidates featured in our SQE Stories, candidates scored about 13.8% higher on the real exam than on QLTS mocks, about 1.2% lower than on ULaw mocks, about 7.3% lower than on BPP mocks and about 9.4% lower than on BARBRI mocks. These are averages with wide ranges, and they assume the mock was sat under exam conditions.
Is it too late to add a question bank for the January 2027 SQE1?
No, but check your seat first. Seat reservation has closed, and direct booking runs from 19 to 23 November 2026 with a limited number of seats. FLK1 runs from 11 to 15 January 2027 and FLK2 from 18 to 22 January 2027, so from early November you have about nine weeks until FLK1 starts. That's enough time to drill your weak areas daily and sit two or three timed mocks. Pick a plan whose access runs past your exam date.
Is Law Drills a subscription?
No. Law Drills Pro is one payment, dated to your sitting. SQE1 Pro for the January 2027 sitting is £195, with access until 31 January 2027. You can start free with 30 question credits per FLK paper in selected subjects, the AI coach and a free SQE1 sample mini-mock.
